What is Medical Coding?

Medical coding is the processing of compiling and maintaining records of services rendered at a health care facility, and filing insurance claims for reimbursement. What’s a Medical Coding Program Like?

How do you get into medical coding? Employers require technicians to be certified through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Technicians generally must have a 2-year Associate’s degree from a program certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) in order to take the certification exam.
